Students Ask President Not to Be Paranoid

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:President Megawati does not need to be paranoid and blame the students for the current protests, according to students. Rico Marbun, Head of Students Executive Board in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi, made this statement to TEMPO News Room on Wednesday (29/01)in response to the criticism made by the president over the recent student protests. As reported earlier, Megawati criticized the students as becoming more anarchist in carrying out their protests during a meeting with Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) members at her official residence in South Jakarta on Tuesday night. Marbun also demanded President Megawati not to ignore peoples aspirations as delivered by the students. If President Megawati stops making the wrong policies, as she has done all this time, the student protests will automatically end, he said. Marbun disagrees with opinion saying that the student protests have turned anarchist and demanded the government prove this accusation. If our actions are considered anarchist, why are the people always with us in our protests? he asked. (Indra Darmawan Tempo News Room)
