TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian Army will keep on strengthening its anti-terror unit in order to carry out its task to the maximum, Army Chief-of-Staff General Endriartono Sutarto said to the press on Friday (15/2), following a leadership meeting at the Army Headquarters. Endriartono said that in recent years many groups –regional, national, or international- had been using terrorism to achieve their goals. “So it is important to strengthen anti-terror units,” he said. Endriartono said the Army would also intensify the readiness of its unit, including the Army’s Special Force (Kopassus), and anti-terror unit in all provincial military commands. In line with its internal reform program, Endriartono said, the Army will continue to improve its personnel’s awareness of the need to uphold the law, as the Army is a part of a constitutional state. “We are committed to bringing the accused [to justice]. Every personnel -whatever his or her rank- those who violate the law, must be punished,” Endriartono said. However, he said that in enforcing the law, there should be no intervention from other interest groups. Endriartono underscored the Army’s commitment in obeying the rules and enforcing the law. In implementing this attitude, the Army hopes to carry out its task to the maximum. (Faisal/Rurit –Tempo News Room)
