TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake with a 6.4 magnitude on the Richter Scale (RS) hits the beach of Southern Pacific Mexico on Thursday, May 8 2014. The disaster frightens local residents and forced them to stay away coastal areas because they are worried that the earthquake may trigger a tsunami.
Associated Press reported that accoring to the United States Geologist Survey report, the earthquake hits the southern part of Guerrero. The epicenter of the earthquake is located approximately 15 kilometers north of Tecpan de Galeana with a depth of 23 kilometers.
Until this story is published, there has not been any reports of casualties. The quake only caused structural damages, including collapsing a 30 meter bridge on the highway in Guerrero.
Governor of Guerrero Angel Aquirre, said that three houses collapsed in Zijuatanejo and 17 others experienced severe damages. She also said that the earthquake had also caused a landslide in several highways, including the main road that connects Acapulco and Mexico City.
