TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian government signed a supplement to its Letter of Intent (LoI) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday night (11/6). This signing is hoped to speed up the disbursement of another IMF loan amounting to US$340 million, according to Mahendra Siregar, and advisor to the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Mahendra made this statement at a press conference that was held at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Wednesday morning (12/6). The supplementary letter, signed by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti, Minister of Finance Budiono and Bank Indonesia governor Syahril Sabirin, describes the latest of the government’s policies in implementing economic recovery and reform programs on various sectors. “This letter comes as the follow-up to the 2002 comprehensive program stipulated in the memorandum of economy and finance policies (MEFP) on December 13, 2001 and the IMF LoI supplement on April 9, 2001,” said Mahendra. Several major points listed in the supplement that will be sent to IMF Managing Director Horst Kohler deal with the fiscal and monetary sectors, asset privatization and divestment, Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support (BLBI), Shareholders Liability Settlement (PKPS) agreements and legal reform as well as the debts of small- and medium-sized enterprises.
