TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The new labor law has been rejected by both labors and business community. The House of Representatives (DPR) ratified the new law at a plenary meeting, led by United Development Party (PPP) member Tosari Widjaya, on Tuesday (25/02). The ratification is a maximum result, said Minister of Manpower Jacob Nuwa Wea. Indonesian Business Community Association (Aspindo) Secretary-General and spokesperson Hasanuddin Rachman said that Aspindo objected to the tri-partite agreement as regards separation pay. The business community demanded that employers be allowed to pay only seven times a workers monthly salary should there be a dismissal. However, the new law draft stipulates that they should pay nine times a workers monthly salary following a dismissal. We have presented our evidence over this agreement. But, the government and the DPR have neglected this, said Rachman. Workers have objected to the outsourcing system in their employment as well as the rules on labor strikes. According to labor activist Dita Indah Sari, this law draft is unbeneficial for workers, particularly as regards part-time workers who do not receive maximum protection .
