Jokowi Wants KPK to Supervise Budget Use

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, asked the Corruption Eradication Commission chairman Abraham Samad to help oversee the use of Jakarta's 2014 Regional Budget, which amounts to Rp72 trillion. Jokowi said this directly to Samad at the city hall during the signing of a MoU on Gratification Control between the capital administration and the antigraft body, Tuesday, March 4. The MoU signing was also attended by Deputy Governor Tjahaja Basuki Purnama or Ahok.
Jokowi claimed that the budget increase from last year's Rp41 trillion to Rp 72 trillion in 2014 is the result of a system revamp. One of the programs implemented in revamping Jakarta's systems is the change in public services system from manual to online. Jokowi's administration is also implementing e-budget, e-procurement, e-purchases, e-cataloguing and e-audit systems, as well as providing an online system for taking care of housing permits.
KPK spokesman Johan Budi said the commission is ready to supervise the use of Jakarta's budget. According to Johan, the KPK has drafted a MoU with Jakarta Financial and Development Supervisory Agency "as a form of prevention," he said.
In addition to preventing budget misuses, the KPK can also follow-up on reports of budget anomalies. "If there is a complaint, the KPK will follow up on it."
