TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) urged all banks to review functions of their information technology (IT) system regularly in a bid to uphold prudent operational risk management following the massive error of Bank Mandiri last weekend.
“This is an effort to improve banking service and prevent recurrence of such an incident in the future,” said Anto Prabowo, the agency's deputy commissioner for public relations and strategic management, in a written statement, Monday, July 22.
Anto stressed that a bank must have and implement a good operational standard. So when a system error occurs, it must prioritize consumer protection related to consumer rights, including the restoration of its service.
“This issue must be an important concern to the banking industry,” he remarked.
Bank Mandiri was particularly asked to report the issue shortly as well as its measures conducted to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. “OJK continues to monitor Bank Mandiri’s mitigation effort in dealing with the IT error,” Anto added.
He further said that presently the banking service has returned to normal and Bank Mandiri has assured the security of clients’ funds.
