PDIP on Prabowo - Megawati Meeting: `Don't See It as Coalition`

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PDIP secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto confirmed the party chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri will meet Gerindra Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto, yet he stopped short of detailing the place and time. To be clear, he added, the meeting is a casual gathering or silaturahim between the two national figures.

“Don’t imply the meeting too far as a coalition establishment. Because matters about the coalition after the presidential election must be discussed by President and all chairs of coalition parties,” Hasto told reporters on Tuesday, July 23.

According to him, Megawati and Prabowo have a good relationship since long ago, both respect each other, and no issue caused distance between them. Albeit the two have different views on politics, Mega and Prabowo are committed to have a dialogue and prioritize the nation’s and country’s interest above all.

“Ibu Mega believes in the statesman of Pak Prabowo. A dialogue between leaders should be held indeed,” Hasto added.

News about the meeting of Megawati and Prabowo Subianto initially brought up by Gerindra deputy head Arief Puyono. Arief said the meeting will take place in Megawati’s residence in Menteng, Wednesday, July 24, at noon. President Joko Widodo or Jokowi reportedly will join the session.
