TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said President Jokowi will officially come up with a decision regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) territorial quarantine this week.
"We’ll see what the term will be, but I think there will be a decision made within this week about it," said Luhut Pandjaitan in a video on Tuesday, March 31, underlining that the President's decision will not make the people suffer too much.
According to the minister, the government must find a proper definition regarding the quarantine, as it is overseen in Law No.6/2018 on health-related quarantines.
He also assures that the government is studying every possibility that can arise if territorial quarantine is imposed, as President Joko Widodo is mainly concerned about people’s economy.
“We want to avert from creating more ‘victims.’ The president is concerned about the millions of less-fortunate demography,” said Luhut who also revealed that Finance Minister Sri Mulyani is currently calculating the budget needed to impose the territorial quarantine.
“The balance must be found,” said Luhut.
